Our Story
Heritage finds a new expression
Tuisa was founded in Kathmandu by siblings Cristeena and Swaraj Man Chitrakar, born into a family whose relationship with art and image-making stretches back nearly six centuries. The Chitrakars have long been painters and, more recently, photographers – their name itself meaning maker of images.
Growing up in Bhimsensthan, Cristeena and Swaraj were surrounded by the visual language of Kathmandu: temples and courtyards, carved wood and sculpted stone, sacred geometry, colour, ornament and ritual. Their father taught them to look beyond the beauty of these objects to the histories and lives within them.
That inheritance took different forms. Swaraj found photography, capturing the culture and everyday life around him through a contemporary lens. Cristeena studied art history and went on to curate exhibitions around the world, developing an eye for form, provenance and the stories objects can hold.
Tuisa brings these perspectives together: the photographer’s eye, the curator’s instinct, and a shared inheritance of crafting something beautiful.

Tuisa derives its name from the Sanskrit Tuisa, meaning brilliance. And while that brilliance lives in every diamond, we believe its truest expression is the woman who wears it.
She brings the piece to life – in the way she layers it, pairs it with something inherited, wears it every day or saves it for moments that matter. Her choices, her stories, her many ways of moving through the world become part of its meaning.
